It’s been a while since anything was posted here. Some changes have occurred with our meetings this year, but most dates and venues are now confirmed so if you’d like to mark them in your calendar you can find the dates listedHERE.
We look forward to seeing our regulars as well as any new faces that would like to join us this year.
A few weeks ago we learned the sad news that one of our favourite Sydney quilting stores, Kim Bradley Creations, was closing down. Whilst it did mean the SYDMQG would have to source another venue to host our Sunday Sew In meetings, it was truly sad to learn of another bricks and mortar store closing down (and one with such a vast array of wonderful quilting fabrics and notions to choose from).
The SYDMQG would like to thank Kim for allowing us the use of her workshop room to conduct our meetings. I’m sure everyone who went along to one of our meetings at Kim’s will agree that we were so lucky to have such a great venue.
It seems our luck with finding great venues is continuing as I am very pleased to announce that our Sunday Sew In meetings will now be held at HobbySew at Top Ryde City.
HobbySew have an awesome area full of natural light for us to take our machines and sew to our heart’s content! There is also a Craft Cafe in store…so access to coffee won’t be a problem!!
Please check out the 2015 Meeting Dates page for the date of our next meeting. If you would like to join us at one of our SYDMQG meetings please get in touch.
What a great first Sunday Sew-In meeting for the year we had yesterday! New people and a new (sort-of) venue meant we had lots to talk about with an inspiring place to sew in.
We had almost 50% of the group as first-timers to this type of SYDMQG meeting which was great to see…we hope you guys decide to come back!
The new class room area at Kim Bradley Creations is now downstairs, so a little easier to access for anyone with mobility issues (or who have heavy machines to lug around). There’s great light and design walls everywhere. All the machine spaces were used, and we also had a great little hand sewing space set up for those of us who were after a different type of creative day (particularly me). I think the room worked really well for everyone.
Of course, we took a few pictures, and had a bit of show and tell…so I’ll stop talking and let you see for yourselves 🙂
We had a great day yesterday…maybe you would like to join us next time?
We’ve also been making great progress on our 2015 SYDMQG group quilt. A few of us (Jenn, Sel and myself) got together over the holiday period for a bit of a sewing bee. Final result of that is our quilt top is all finished, ready to be quilted.
I expect that at either our January of February Saturday meetings we will need a few hands on deck for hand sewing the binding…All volunteers welcome 🙂
Hope to see you at one of our meetings this year. Until then, happy sewing!!
Oh I didn’t mean to be so late in posting this update from our last meeting for the year. The week has just gone by so fast!
What a great day we had last Sunday to finish off the year for SYDMQG. Our Sunday Sew In was held as usual at Kim Bradley Creations…we love this place so much, and are so happy we can continue on here next year as well. It was also nice to be in air conditioning after the run of hot, humid weather we have been experiencing in Sydney. As usual the day ended in a massive storm….oh I didn’t enjoy that drive home!
But I digress… in between all of our chatting and eating all the yummy food, we all did some sewing and a bit of show and tell. So here’s what some of us were working on… Continue reading →
How lovely was the weekend just gone? A mostly beautiful sunny weekend in Sydney, made even better with a SYDMQG Sit ‘n’ Sew meeting on Saturday.
A nice intimate group this weekend but we did get to meet the lovely Monique. Monique’s sister, Michelle, came along to her first SYDMQG meeting last month, so it was great to have both of these lovely ladies join us over the past couple of meetings. We look forward to seeing you both again soon. Continue reading →
This Sunday 6 April we are hosting our SUPER Sew-In at Kim Bradley Creations. We will kick off at MIDDAY and work until 4pm. The cost is $10 per person but there is a ton of room so you can bring a machine, cutting work, a quilt to lay out, the possibilities are endless!
This is also a really good time to bring your friends along if they are curious about the guild too!
We will be looking at our group quilt and starting to put it together in anticipation of the show! It’s so exciting!!
Please RSVP by email (sydneymodernquiltguild at gmail dot com) to let us know if you’re coming – we’d love to have you!
Due to the entry date for the 2014 Sydney Quilt Show’s being rather sooner than expected, there’ll be a Working Bee at Jenn (Penny Poppleton)’s place up in Sydney’s North Shore THIS SATURDAY to power through enough blocks to give the NSW Guild an indication of what we’ll be entering for the 2014 Sydney Quilt Show.
If you can take a few hours out from your weekend activities, then please come along, bring your scraps and your low-volumes, and let’s get sewing those pickle dish blocks!
Here’s one Jenn made earlier!
Email Jenn if you’re interested and able to make it. The more the merrier!
